Brittany Hagen

Advanced Practice Social Worker, MSW, APSW

Brittany Hagen is an Advanced Practice Social Worker. She primarily works with young children, school-age children, preteens, and their caregivers. Before becoming a therapist, she spent more than a decade working with children and families involved in the child welfare system. Those experiences taught her to look beyond what is immediately visible and approach people with curiosity. They also deepened her appreciation for the powerful role that safe, trusting relationships can play in healing and growth.

Her work is deeply influenced by attachment and interpersonal neurobiology—the idea that our brains, relationships, and experiences are constantly shaping one another throughout life. She is fascinated by how our brains make sense of our experiences and how safe, attuned relationships can create new experiences that gradually expand that understanding over time.

She enjoys working with children and caregivers navigating complex trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, emotional and behavioral concerns, and major life transitions. One of her favorite parts of therapy is helping children and caregivers discover new ways of understanding themselves and one another. She is interested in what behaviors may be trying to accomplish, what they reveal about a person's experience of the world, and how new understanding can create new possibilities. She believes our actions don't always reflect what we know, what we value, or who we are at our best.

Because no two people experience the world in exactly the same way, she doesn't believe therapy should look the same for everyone. Depending on the individual, your work together may include play, conversation, movement, creativity, sensory experiences, or a combination of these. Her hope is to create a therapeutic relationship where children and caregivers feel understood, supported, and free to grow in ways that are meaningful to them.

Outside of work:

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her spouse and son, exploring nature, listening to podcasts and audiobooks, and finding quirky treasures while thrifting.
